Caffeinated drinks 'not the best energy booster'

Caffeinated drinks 'not the best energy booster'

If you're looking for a quick energy booster, it may be tempting to reach for that can of caffeinated soft drink.

But research from the NSW Poisons Information Centre has revealed that the number of people overdosing on caffeine from such drinks is increasing, with nearly 300 people calling the centre for help in the last six years.

Over 40 per cent of these cases has led to someone being hospitlised because they consumed too much caffeine, the Central Western Daily reported.

Community dietician Christine Jusuf told the newspaper that the warnings displayed on energy drinks are there for a reason, and pregnant or breastfeeding women and young children should steer clear.

"As part of a balanced diet there is no place for energy drinks. There are negative side effects such as extreme dizziness, headaches after the initial energy boost, heart palpitations, restlessness and anxiety," she added.

Instead of reaching for a can next time you feel sluggish, try lying on the Yantra Mat for a few minutes to boost your blood circulation and experience a burst of energy the natural way.
